Off the eastern coast of the Costa Maya on the Yucatan, the snorkeling around the Chinchorro Bank offers exceptional views of spectacular coral formations. The 30 mile long Chinchorro Bank is an atoll at the heart of Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve. The atoll is a ring of reef and coral islands surrounding a lagoon.

In addition to the dramatic coral formations, snorkelers in the Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve can also check out the dozens of shipwrecks.

The Chinchorro Bank is located 19 miles off Costa Maya and Mahahual on the southern Yucatan peninsula and it usually takes about 90 minutes to reach by boat.

Overall, Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve is the 6th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 40 snorkeling dives in Mexico. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Banco Chinchorro Biosphere Reserve including Cozumel, Cancun, Riviera Maya, Isla Mujeres, Puerto Morelos and Xel-HaYal Ku Lagoon.
