West of Los Angeles and south of Santa Barabara in the Channel Islands, the snorkeling off Santa Cruz Island is known for its diverse marine life. The shore access at Santa Cruz is mostly sandy sea floor except for a very shallow 5-15 foot rocky habitat near the pier at the west end of Scorpion anchorage.

When snorkeling in the Channel Islands, it is highly recommended to use wetsuits due to cold water conditions. Also, a dive flag marker is encouraged.

Access to Santa Cruz Island is provided by Island Packers ferry service (805) 642-1393.

Overall, Santa Cruz Island is the 5th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 15 snorkeling dives in California. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Santa Cruz Island including Refugio State Beach, Anacapa Island, Santa Barbara Island, Santa Rosa Island and San Miguel Island.
