West of Los Angeles in the Channel Islands, the snorkeling off Santa Barbara Island is known for its rocky reefs, kelp forests and elephant seals.

When snorkeling in the Channel Islands, it is highly recommended to use wetsuits due to cold water conditions. Also, a dive flag marker is encouraged.

Access to Santa Barabara Island is provided by Island Packers ferry service (805) 642-1393.

Overall, Santa Barbara Island is the 8th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 14 snorkeling dives in California. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Santa Barbara Island including Refugio State Beach, Anacapa Island, Santa Cruz Island, Santa Rosa Island and San Miguel Island.
