South of Kihei and Wailea on Maui, the snorkeling off Polo Beach Park is known for its coral reefs and diverse marine life. The best snorkeling at Polo Beach Park is off to the right. Keep in mind that the afternoon winds tend to kickup the wave action. Also, there is limited parking available, so make sure to arrive early.
To reach the snorkeling at Polo Beach Park, follow Kaukahi Road, which is on the south side of Kea Lani Hotel, towards the water. At the bottom of the small hill, turn right following the beach access signs to the parking. To reach the snorkeling on Maui by air, you will need to fly into Kahului Airport (OGG) which is located in the middle of the north coast of Maui. It is served by direct flights from the mainland US and also by inter-island flights from several other Hawaiian Islands by regional carriers. When planning a trip to the Hawaiian islands, be aware that the State Of Hawaii has banned all sunscreens that oxybenzone, which has been proven to kill coral reefs.
Overall, Polo Beach Park is the 19th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 21 snorkeling dives in Maui. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Polo Beach Park including Molokini Crater, Maluaka Beach Park, Kanahena Cove, La Perouse Bay, Five Caves and Keawanaku Beach.
