Southwest of Nassau in the Bahamas, the best snorkeling off Andros Island is the Southern Bight. The snorkeling off Andros Island is known for its deep blue holes. The blue holes off the coast are in about 20 feet of water and the rim around each is covered with coral gardens. These coral gardens attract reef sharks, stingrays, jacks and barracudas.
A good base for snorkeling on Andros Island is Small Hope Bay Lodge located north of Andros Town on the east coast.
To reach the snorkeling at Andros Island, most travelers will fly commercial airlines into Nassau on New Providence or fly into Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. To reach the out islands from Nassau, you can either use Bahamas Air (which is known for late departures) or use the mail boat ferry service (393-1064).
