Northwest of Red Hook on the east side of St Thomas USVI, there is good snorkeling at Lindquist Beach in Smith Bay. The best snorkeling can be found to the left a couple hours before low tide since it can get quite shallow.
The snorkeling at Lindquist Beach is accessed via Smith Bay Park. The access road to Smith Bay Park is located west of Sapphire Bay Resort an east of Sugar Bay Resort on SR38 (Smith Bay Road). There is a small fee to enter Smith Bay Park and there are some limited amenities. Note: this beach is known to be very quiet during the week and very popular with locals on the weekend. Some consider it unsafe and usually taxis will no pickup here. To reach the snorkeling on St Thomas by air, fly into Cyril E King Airport (STT) which is located on the west side of the Charlotte Amalie port city. There are direct flights from Miami, NYC, Houston, San Francisco and San Juan, Puerto Rico. In addition, there are inter-island flights from neighboring Caribbean islands, such as from Cape Air. Alternately, there are regular ferry services from Charlotte Amalie to nearby islands of St John, Virgin Gorda (BVI) and Tortola (BVI). The best snorkeling on St Thomas is during the months of May through July when the surf is most calm and the visibility is highest.
