On the northwest coast of Aruba, the snorkeling at Arashi Marine Park is known for its excellent visibility. The usually calm waters in Arashi Marine Park is good for families. The water depth goes down to 40 feet and the visibility is up to 60 feet. The main reef is located offshore of the lighthouse and has elkhorn coral, brain coral and marine fish. You'll most likely observe moray eels, filefish, damselfish, angelfish, squirrelfish and blue tangs. The Arashi Beach is quite popular with all the locals on the weekend, so if you want peace then make sure to come on the weekdays.
To reach the Arashi Marine Park snorkelen, you can use the cheap public bus from the main hotel zone in Oranjestad and head north to the last bus stop on Malmok. From the last stop, it is a 10 minute walk to Arashi Marine Park. The dive site is located 1.5 miles to the northwest of Tierra del Sol.
The best snorkeling at Arashi Marine Park is to the north of the main beach. You'll want to work your way out to the white buoy while watching the generally shallow water depths. Many of the larger elkhorn corals are dead, but there are nice star corals, brain corals and pillar corals. For the best visibility, you'll want to explore here about an hour before high tide. The Arashi Marine Park is known for currents, so use extra care when snorkeling. Also, it is best to avoid windy days.
To reach the snorkeling on Aruba by air, you will need to fly into Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA). There are several major airlines that fly into Aruba including US Air, United, Delta and KLM. Keep in mind that there is a $37 USD departure tax to leave Aruba. Due to the crowds at the two levels of passport control in Aruba, you may want to allow up to 3 hours at the airport, especially between 11am to 3pm on Fridays through Sundays.
