Southeast of Kota Bharu in the South China Sea, the Pulau Perhentian snorkeling is known for diverse marine life and excellent visibility. The Pulau Perhentian consists of serveral islands including Pulau Perhentian Kecil and Pulau Perhentian Besar. The best snorkeling dive sites around Pulau Perhentian include Sugar Wreck, Tiger Rock, Tanjung Besi and Coral Garden. The Tanjung Besi dive site is one of the more popular with shalow coral formations providing habitat for reef fish, but there has been extensive coral bleaching over the past few years. The Coral Garden is a shallow, sheltered bay with large boulder coral.
If you are coming to Pulau Perhentian to snorkel with whale sharks, the best time of year is September to October when the plankton is high.
Overall, Pulau Perhentian is the 4th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 5 snorkeling dives in Malaysia.
