South of Tokyo on the Izu Peninsula, the snorkeling in Suruga Bay is popular for its diverse marine life that includes lionfish, scorpionfish, rockfish and dragon moray eels. The water clarity is not the greatest, but the marine diversity makes up for it.

The Suruga Bay is along the west shore of the Izu Peninsula in the Shizuoka prefecture. It scenic two hour drive south from Tokyo to reach the west coast for access to Suruga Bay. There are numerous villages that provide access to the bay along this rugged, but scenic coast. You may be asked to pay a small fee when diving here as compensation to use these fishing grounds.

Overall, Suruga Bay is the 8th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 12 snorkeling dives in Japan. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Suruga Bay including Hirizo Beach and Koganezaki Bay Park.
