Southwest of Sarasota on Lido Key, the snorkeling off South Lido Beach is known for encountering crabs, clams, sand dollars, sea stars, sea urchins and small reef fish. The water clarity off South Lido Beach is known to be poor. For best visibility, you will want to come in April or May after a period of rainless days; try snorkeling Lido Beach on a morning high-tide on a windless day.
To reach the Lido Key snorkeling from Sarasota, head west on SR789 onto St Armands Key. At the traffic circle, head south on Avenue Of The Presidents to the end. Turn west on Taft Drive and turn south on Ben Franklin Drive to the end. Snorkeling on the Florida Gulf Coast, such as at Lido Key, is not known for good visibility. Matter of fact, the snorkeling is known for very low water clarity in the range from 1 foot to 7 feet most of the year.
Overall, Lido Key is the 12th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 18 snorkeling dives in Florida Gulf Coast. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Lido Key including Siesta Key, Casey Key, Venice Public Beach and Beer Can Island.
