Southwest of Nassau in the Bahamas, the North Beach off Andros Island is known for its small patch shoals that are habitat for diverse reef fish. The North Beach snorkeling dive site is located north of The Dock. The best snorkeling is between the two buoys.
The snorkeling off Andros Island is known for its deep blue holes. The blue holes off the coast are in about 20 feet of water and the rim around each is covered with coral gardens. These coral gardens attract reef sharks, stingrays, jacks and barracudas.
North Beach is located approximately 3.6 miles northwest of Andros Town on North Andros Island. A good base for snorkeling on Andros Island is Small Hope Bay Lodge located north of Andros Town on the east coast.
To reach the snorkeling at Andros Island, most travelers will fly commercial airlines into Nassau on New Providence or fly into Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. To reach the out islands from Nassau, you can either use Bahamas Air (which is known for late departures) or use the mail boat ferry service (393-1064).
Tip: Keep in mind while snorkeling North Beach off Andros Island, the water temperture is known to vary greatly from summer (78F-84F) to winter (68F-76F).
