On the southwest side of Cochinos Grande, the snorkeling at Plantation Beach is known for its sandy turtle grass flats. The sand flats provide habitat for conch, sea stars and sea biscuit. The waters range from 5 to 100 feet deep. The Plantation Beach snorkeling dive site can be accessed by either boat or shore.

The Cayo Cochinos is a collection of fifteen islands and cays that compose a protected biological reserve operated by the Smithsonian Institute known as the Honduran Coral Reef Foundation. The Honduran Coral Reef Foundation charges visitors $10 per day. There are 13 small coral cays and 2 small islands, Cayo Cochino Grande and Cayo Cochino Menor. The reserve supports over 100 coral species and over 200 fish species. There are both shore-accessed and boat-accessed snorkeling dives in the Cayo Cochinos. For boat-accessed dives, you must use one of the established 33 mooring buoys.

To reach the snorkeling in Cayos Cochinos by air, fly into Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) in San Pedro Sula. Then, either transfer to La Ceiba or directly to Sambo Creek (there are direct taxis, and there are transfer boats from La Ceiba to Sambo Creek). Alternately, if you are coming from the US, you may be able to find a direct flight to Roatan into Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB) from Miami or Houston. Then, you can take a ferry back to La Ceiba.

TIP: The two main options for snorkeling in Cayos Cochinos are to either stay at the Turtle Bay Eco Resort or use Pirate Bay Divers for day trips out of Sambo Creek.

Overall, Plantation Beach is the 3rd most popular snorkel dive spot of all 3 snorkeling dives in Cayos Cochinos.
