North of Cairns and offshore to the east of Cooktown, the snorkelling at Ribbon Reefs is known for its clear waters with lush coral gardens. The Ribbon Reefs are a series of 10 north-south running reefs of varying length spread over 100km. Two of the more popular snorkel spots are the Clam Garden dive and the Temple Of Doom dive.
The access to the Ribbon Reef snorkeling is mainly by weeklong dive charter boat trips departing from Cairns and from Port Douglas.
Overall, Ribbon Reefs is the 28th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 43 snorkeling dives in Queensland. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Ribbon Reefs including Norman Reef, Heron Island, Hamilton Island, Lady Elliot Island, Agincourt Reef and Langford Reef.
