South of Port Vila on the southwest side of Efate Island, the snorkeling at Pango Cove is the most popular dive on Efate. It can be accessed from the shore at the Nasama Resort, or it can be accessed by boat from one of several snorkeling tour charter boats. There is good snorkeling at the Nasama Resort house reef located about 80 feet offshore.
Vanuatu is located northeast of Australia and west of Fiji. To reach the snorkeling in Vanuatu by air, use the international fights into Port Vila airport on the island of Efate. The international flights are direct from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and the Solomon Islands. To reach the other islands of Vanuatu, you will need to transfer to the interisland air service provided by Air Vanuatu, which does go to Pekoa on Espiritu Santo (near Luganville). Keep in mind that ATM machines are only available in Port Vila and Santo. Also, malaria, Hepatitius B and tuberculosis are endemic to Vanuatu.
Note: In March 2015, the Tropical Cyclone Pam directly hit Vanuatu with winds up to 185mph and very high surf. In addition to infrastructure damage, it was expected that the reef sustained extensive damage. Please contact local dive shops before heading out to this dive site to make sure it has not been damaged.
Overall, Pango Cove is the 2nd most popular snorkel dive spot of all 6 snorkeling dives in Vanuatu.
