Southeast of Cairns and north of the Whitsunday Islands in the Great Barrier Reef, the snorkelling at Hayman Island offers plentiful marine life in soft and hard coral gardens. During Hayman Island snorkeling, you may encounter lionfish, scorpionfish, butterflyfish and damselfish.
The best snorkeling on Hayman Island is on the northwest side at Blue Pearl Bay. It has a spectacular fringing coral reef. The visibility is 10 to 45 feet, and the water depth is 10 to 40 feet deep. The healthiest coral is at the south end of the beach where you’ll find sea fans, sea whips and staghorn coral.
Overall, Hayman Island is the 32nd most popular snorkel dive spot of all 43 snorkeling dives in Queensland. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Hayman Island including Norman Reef, Heron Island, Hamilton Island, Lady Elliot Island, Agincourt Reef and Langford Reef.
