North of Brisbane off the coast of Rockhampton, the snorkelling off Great Keppel Island offers colorful reef life around the fringing reefs. While snorkeling, you may encounter the maori wrasse, clownfish and sea snakes in the surprisingly crystal clear waters.

The best Great Keppel Island snorkeling is at Shelving Beach on the western tip of the island. You can reach Shelving Beach from Fishermans Beach. Also, other favorite snorkeling sites include Wreck Beach and Butterfish Bay. If you are bored with these and need more, try one of there other 17 beaches especially the ones on the north and east shores.

There is regular ferry service from the mainland town of Rosslyn Bay at the Keppel Bay Marina to Great Keppel Island. Also, there is a 30 minute charter flight from Rockhampton. Great Keppel Island is located 13km off the coast of Veppoon.

Overall, Great Keppel Island is the 16th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 43 snorkeling dives in Queensland. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Great Keppel Island including Norman Reef, Heron Island, Hamilton Island, Lady Elliot Island, Agincourt Reef and Langford Reef.
