Southeast off the coast of Cairns, the snorkelling off Frankland Islands is well known for lush coral formations of both staghorn coral and brain coral. The water visibility can range dramatically from 3m to 25m.

Overall, Frankland Islands is the 25th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 43 snorkeling dives in Queensland. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Frankland Islands including Norman Reef, Heron Island, Hamilton Island, Lady Elliot Island, Agincourt Reef and Langford Reef.
