Southeast of Nassau and northeast of Long Island, the snorkeling at Conception Island is known for its calm water and as a good beginner dive. This boat-accessed dive site is in 20 foot deep waters with up to 45 foot visibility. During Conception Island snorkeling, keep an eye out for triggerfish and moray eels.
To reach the snorkeling at Long Island, most travelers will fly commercial airlines into Nassau on New Providence or fly into Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. To reach the out islands from Nassau, you can either use Bahamas Air (which is known for late departures) or use the mail boat ferry service (393-1064). When flying into Long Island, the main airfield is Deadmans Cay Airport.
Tip: Keep in mind while snorkeling Conception Island, the water temperture is known to vary greatly from summer (78F-84F) to winter (68F-76F).
