Off the eastern coast of Trincomalee, the snorkeling at Pigeon Island is known for clear water, plentiful marine life and healthy coral. While snorkeling at Pigeon Island National Park, you may encounter blacktipped reef sharks, olive ridley sea turtles, green sea turtles and hawksbill turtles.
Pigeon Island is accessible by boat only, which is about a 15 minute boat ride. The Pigeon Island National Park office is on the beach front of Trincomalee at Anilana Hotel. There is a daily fee to access the park. Right next to the park office is the Nailaveli Private Boat Service that runs boat trips out to Pigeon Island.
To reach the snorkeling in Sri Lanka by air, fly into Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB), which is also known as Colombo International Airport or Katunayake International Airport. It is located in the middle of the western coast.
Overall, Pigeon Island is the 6th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 8 snorkeling dives in Sri Lanka.
