North of Auckland on Karikari Peninsula in the Northland, the snorkeling at Maitai Bay is known for diverse marine life. During Maitai Bay snorkeling, you may encounter snapper, red moki, sea slugs and squid. Since the waters can be quite cool, a thin wetsuit is highly recommended.

To reach Auckland by air, fly into Auckland Airport (AKL), which is located south of Auckland. There is good camping to be found at the Maitai Bay Campsite.

Overall, Maitai Bay is the 9th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 11 snorkeling dives in New Zealand.
