Northeast of Singapore and off the northeastern coast of Kalimantan, the snorkeling at Pulau Matakin is known for its clear waters, giant clams and sea turtles. There is a very healthy fringing reef of soft and hard corals. During Pulau Matakin snorkeling, you may encounter giant clams, frogfish, seahorses, ribbon eel, barracuda, bumphead parrotfish, green sea turtles, hawksbill turtles, white-tipped reef sharks and leopard sharks. Some of the best Matakin Island snorkeling is found off the southeast end of the island and is locally known as coral gardens.
Mataking Island is located northeast off the city of Semporna in the province of Sabah. It is a one hour boat ride from Semporna to the island.
