West of Ponce and Guanica, the snorkeling off the village of La Parguera is known for a chain of islands and reefs. Many consider this to be the best snorkeling in Puerto Rico and some of the best coral formations in all of the Caribbean. There are several shallow water cays located in this phosphorescent bay that are ideal for snorkeling. While snorkeling, you may encounter turtles, manatees, dolphins and barracuda. The best way to access these off-shore snorkeling spots is via a snorkeling charter tour boat.
To reach Puerto Rico by air, fly into Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU). Isla Caja de Muerto is located about 5 miles off the coast. While there used to be a government-operated ferry, there is now only one private snorkeling charter tour boat.
Overall, La Parguera is the 16th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 17 snorkeling dives in Puerto Rico.
