Southwest of Providenciales off the northern West Caicos coast, there are plenty of white sand dollars to be found when snorkeling in locally known Sand Dollar Bay. It’s about 1,000 feet off the coast of West Caicos. There are typically sand dollars just laying about in the sand flats and also some starfish in the sea grass. Besides that, there isn’t much marine life to observe in the 5 foot deep waters.
To reach the snorkeling on Turks and Caicos by air, fly into Providenciales International Airport (PLS) located in the middle of the island. The island of West Caicos can be reached from Providenciales only by charter snorkeling tour boat or by live-aboard boat out of the southside marinas of Provo. There is no inter-island flights or ferry boat service presently to West Caicos. When thinking about booking a snorkel tour out to the West Caicos area, keep in mind that they tend to be quite unreliable and may cancel for a variety of reasons including insufficient bookings, weather, surf and boat maintenance issues. The odds of a trip actually going are about 50-percent, so book early in your trip and often. In addition, the boat tour companies will not commit to any given dive site until you are actually on the boat.
Overall, Sand Dollar Bay is the 25th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 32 snorkeling dives in Turks And Caicos. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Sand Dollar Bay including Sunday Service, Molasses Reef, French Cay and Virgin Reef.
