East of Grand Case on the eastcoast of St Martin, the snorkeling at Baie Orientale is known for sand flats and sea grass. This snorkel spot is ideal if its a sunny day with calm winds and low surf. The water clarity typically ranges from 10 to 20 feet of visibility at most. On a calm day, there is good visibility and the rocks at the southern end have the best snorkeling.
To reach the snorkeling on Saint-Martin by air, fly into Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). Note, there is a $30USD departure tax collected at the airport.
SPECIAL NOTICE: In September 2017, the island of St Martin took a direct hit from the destructive Hurricane Irma. The island infrastructure was severely damaged and will take significant time to rebuild. In particular, Orient Bay was severely damaged with most of the buildings destroyed and abandoned. It is now a very sketchy place to visit with no services. The access road is damaged and the beach front road is in pretty bad condition. There are no restroom facilities at all and no beach rentals.
Overall, Baie Orientale is the 10th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 15 snorkeling dives in St Martin - Sint Maarten. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Baie Orientale including Creole Rock, Tintamarre Island, Maho Bay, Baie Rouge, Anse Marcel and Happy Bay.
