On the south end of the Gold Coast, the snorkelling at Broadbeach offers good snorkel dive conditions. During Gold Coast snorkeling, you may encounter stingrays and nurse sharks along the sand flats. Luckily, Spiral Beach is a semi-protected snorkeling spots due to the Tweed River rock jetties so it can actually be good for much of the year while other dive spots are closed out due to waves. The best time of day is an early morning high-tide.
While most people recommend April and May, the surf can still be quite high for beach-accessed Gold Coast snorkeling spots. The best time of year for snorkeling at Spiral Beach is really from August to October when the surf is low and the visibility is higher. However, the water temperature is cooler, so you may want to wear a thick dive top for warmth.
Spiral Beach can be tough to find since most people don’t know it exists. I just around the corner from the Duranbah Beach, which is located near Coolangatta.
Overall, Spiral Beach is the 42nd most popular snorkel dive spot of all 43 snorkeling dives in Queensland. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Spiral Beach including Cook Island Aquatic Reserve, Gold Coast Seaway, Kirra Reef, Wave Break Island, Palm Beach Reef and Narrowneck Artificial Reef.
