Southeast of Havana on the eastern outer fringe of the Bay Of Pigs, the snorkeling at Playa Maceo has calm protected waters ideal for beginners and families. Also known as Caleta Buena, this rocky cove has plentiful marine life including blue tangs, bluehead wrasse, butterflyfish, mullets, angelfish, surgeonfish and moray eels.
Playa Maceo is located about 8km east of Playa Giron along a small, unnumbered coastal road. There is usually an entrance fee at Caleta Buena. There are a couple ladders providing easy water access from the rocky coastline. The water depth ranges from 2m to 6m deep at the center cove.
To reach the snorkeling on Cuba, fly into Havana Jose Marti International Airport located on the northwest side of the island. The Playa Giron is located 200km southeast of Havana.
Overall, Playa Maceo is the 17th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 18 snorkeling dives in Cuba. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Playa Maceo including Punta Perdiz, Playa Larga and Playa Giron.
