Southeast of Fort Walton Beach at Miramar Beach, the snorkeling at the Dolphin Snorkel Reef offers an artifical reef to enjoy. The artifical reef was installed and maintained by the South Walton Artificial Reef Association. It is located about 685 feet from shore in 15 foot deep water and is best accessed via a kayak with a diver down flag. Since there is usually some surf here, it is best to plan for a windless day with low surf conditions. While snorkeling at Dolphin Snorkel Reef, you may encounter amberjack, lionfish, barracuda and damselfish.
Overall, Dolphin Snorkel Reef is the 14th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 16 snorkeling dives in Florida Panhandle. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Dolphin Snorkel Reef including Destin Jetty, Seahorse Snorkel Reef, Turtle Snorkel Reef and Grouper Snorkel Reef.
