Southeast of Fort Walton Beach in Grayton Beach State Park, the snorkeling at the Turtle Snorkel Reef offers an artifical reef to enjoy. The artifical reef was installed and maintained by the South Walton Artificial Reef Association. It is located about 800 feet from shore in 16 foot deep water and is best accessed via a kayak with a diver down flag. Since there is usually some surf here, it is best to plan for a windless day with low surf conditions. While snorkeling at Turtle Snorkel Reef, you may encounter triggerfish, gray snaper, sea urchins and reef sharks.
Overall, Turtle Snorkel Reef is the 14th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 16 snorkeling dives in Florida Panhandle. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Turtle Snorkel Reef including Destin Jetty, Dolphin Snorkel Reef, Seahorse Snorkel Reef and Grouper Snorkel Reef.
