Southwest of Perth at Coogee Beach, the Coogee Maritime Trail offers snorkelers clear water and shipwrecks to explore. Centrally located around the Omeo Shipwreck, the snorkeling is highlighted by maritime history and an underwater art gallery. Also known as the Omeo Wreck Dive Trail, the water depth ranges from shallows down to 7m with most of the trail in 2.5m to 5m depths.
The Omeo Shipwreck was driven ashore and wrecked in 1905 after a long career as a steamship since 1858. While snorkeling the Coogee Maritime Trail, you may encounter nudibranchs, starfish, cuttlefish, butterfish, boxfish, snapper, toadfish, and cowfish. In the underwater art gallery, there is an old anchor, railway wheel, replica cannon, and a giant sea star Stella Maris which can be swam through. Along the "Omeo Wreck Dive Trail", there is also an artifical reef consisting of 70 concrete modules that provides marine life habitat.
Overall, Coogee Maritime Trail is the 26th most popular snorkel dive spot of all 26 snorkeling dives in Western Australia. Several of the better snorkeling spots are nearby Coogee Maritime Trail including Marmion Marine Park, Purdy Point, Abrolhos Islands, Jurien Bay Marine Park, Shoalwater Island Marine Park and Yallingup Reef Beach.
